The earliest furniture found belongs to 8th century B.C. and this period comes under classical period. During the 1300s, the style was Gothic and it covered benches, seats, beds chair, and stool formed by attaching wooden boards together.

Dark Age furniture or furniture from the renaissance period was known for heavy, Florentine and ornamented designs. The furniture of this period was inspired by Greco-Roman styles. The Baroque style had decorated woods with its lush adornment and frames featuring fruits and flowers. Rococo and Baroque style and then Imperial style are considered as revival styles.

Antique furniture is a very interesting way to understand the particular style and fashion of different places and ages. It gives people a sense of attachment to the era to which their furniture belongs. Also, changes in style help us to understand the changes that occurred in our society and it reflects the needs and living condition of the people of that time.

Collecting antique furnitures is considered as very luxurious leisurely pursuit. It requires thoughtfulness, a deep knowledge of furniture styles, knowledge of different designs prevalent in different countries at different times and also ability to make distinction between true and fake antique.
